Asin Thottumkal Biography
Asin Thottumkal, the pretty lass from the south who made a grant entry to the Hindi film industry through the sensational Ghajini, opposite Aamir Khan. With her stunning looks and promising talents, she is already a star down the South, and is aiming to make it big in the Bollywood.
Personal Life:
Asin was born in the beautiful coastal city of Kochi, Kerala, India into a Malayalam speaking Christian family. Her unique name means 'pure and without blemish'. A proud daughter of Joseph Thottumkal and Dr. Seline Thottumkal, she did her schooling in the Naval Public School and St. Theresa's school in Kochi. Afterwards, she did her Bachelor's degree in English Literature from St. Theresa's College for Women , Kochi.
Early Career:
Asin started her career by doing a supporting role in the Malayalam film Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka by director Sathyan Anthikad in 2001 when she was just 15. The film was a failure at the box office and Asin migrated to Hyderabad to try her luck in the Telugu film industry. Her first Telugu film Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi opposite Ravi Teja, was a huge success and she was appreciated a lot for her performance. She then did a few more Telugu films like Shivamani, Lakshmi Narasimha and Gharshana, which made her a much sought after face in the industry. She debuted in Tamil with the film M.Kumaran S/O Mahalakshmi opposite Jayam Ravi, which was actually a remake of her debut Telugu film. After that she did a few Telugu and Tamil films including Chakram and Ullam Ketkumae, which cemented her place as a leading heroine in the South industry. Afterwards came the A.R.Murugadoss 's Tamil film Ghajini opposite Soorya, which became a huge box office success all round South. She also appeared in films like Sivakasi, Majaa, Varalaru, Annavaram, Aalwar, Pokkiri and Vel. She also portrayed two roles in Kamal Haasan's Dasavathaaram in 2008 which was dubbed in various languages.
Bollywood:
After seeing her performance in the Tamil Ghajini, she was roped in to play the same character in its Hindi remake starring Aamir Khan, which went on to be a record breaking hit in the box office. She then starred in Vipul Shah's London Dreams with Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn. She is currently doing Ready opposite Salman Khan, to be released in the coming June. She has also bagged a role in Houseful 2 opposite Akshay Kumar.
Achievements:
Asin has bagged a number of awards for her performance in various films in the Tamil and Telugu industries, including the Kalaimamani award by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in 2009. She has one three filmfare awards- one a best Telugu Actress award for Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi, Best Tamil Actress award for Ghajini and Best Debut(Female) Award for her Hindi debut in Ghajini. She has also won IIFA Star Debut Award and Star Screen Award for Best Promising Newcomer-Female and was also nominated for Filmfare Best Actress Award for her outstanding performance in Ghajini.

Asin loves listening to melodious music and to watch movies, and owns a huge collection of both.
