Born on 22nd January at Mumbai, this five feet six inches tall leggy lass came into limelight after she was crowned Miss India 1993 and stood fourth in Miss Universe 1993. With a highly photogenic face, Namrata had always been a photographers dream. One of the top models then, her presence was electrifying on ramp. After modeling for a few years, this enigmatic beauty took the road her elder sister Shilpa Shirodkar had taken i.e. Bollywood.
She made her debut in an inconsequential film Hero Hindustani opposite Arshad Warsi in 1998, but wasnt noticed until the small realistic role she played opposite Sanjay Dutt in Vaastav. After Vaastav she also became a regular in director Mahesh Manjrekars camp.
Unlike other Bollywood actresses, Namrata had been digging more of sensible and realistic roles. She was seen in non-glamorous roles in films like Aghaaz and Tera Mera Saath Rahen. Her small role in Pukar and Dil Vil Pyar Vyar got her appreciation. Recently, she was seen in Charas opposite Jimmy Shergill, in which she has a very unconventional role of a journalist who doesnt mind sleeping around with anyone for a story.
Whatever the number of her films, she has carved out a niche of her own in the film world and the myth that 'models can't act' is now slowly been broken. Her forthcoming release is the much hyped Bride and Prejudice along with Aishwarya Rai and Martin Hendersen.
